The activity of the School of Computer Science and Technology is focused in three key areas, namely Computer Science, Creative Technologies and Engineering (including construction). It enjoys a growing international reputation underpinned by its significant research. The School’s research activities in Computer Science and Informatics have been rated in the top 30 UK Universities by research. It attracts external research funding totalling in excess of £1 million every year through its strong links with local, national and international industry.
The University of Bedfordshire has been announced as one of England’s Top 25 universities to have successfully contributed to an increase in social mobility amongst disadvantaged young people in England, according to a new report published by the Sutton Trust.
Bedfordshire also rates highest in the East of England for ‘access to education’ and is in the Top 10 of this category for the whole country – one of only two universities situated outside of London.
The School is seeking committed and enthusiastic candidates for the role of Lecturer/Senior Lecturer in the area of creative technologies (with a focus on computer animation, graphics, compositing and visual effects) who will help deliver (lecturer) or lead (senior lecturer) the enhancement and delivery of the School's teaching, research and enterprise activity in creative technologies. The post-holder would be required to make a major contribution to teaching within the area of our computer animation and visual effects and computer games courses and will undertake a role in the development of postgraduate course opportunities in this area, serving directly under the Head of School. Applicants should demonstrate expertise in one or more of the following areas: 2D and 3D graphics, 3D character animation and rigging, compositing for visual effects and virtual reality.
The successful candidate will be expected to undertake scholarly activity and engage in projects in areas that align with creative technologies, and to foster cross-school collaboration with our newly created School of Arts and the Creative Industries. Candidates will be typically educated to PhD level in a relevant discipline (or have gained equivalent professional experience in industry), and possess sufficient specialist knowledge of creative technologies to develop teaching programmes and the delivery of learning support. Ideally, you will have experience of teaching digital animation and creative technologies at a higher education level as well as experience of engaging with employers on joint projects (which could include the development of training/educational courses).
