The Faculty of Creative Arts, Technologies and Science is seeking to appoint a Professor of Engineering to our School of Computer Science and Technology. The successful candidate will have an international reputation in an area of Engineering research that aligns with the broad interests of the School.
In addition to their professorial duties, the successful candidate will, depending on their research area, take on a leadership role in either the Renewable Energy Innovation Centre (RENEW) or the Institute for Research in Applicable Computing (IRAC). They will work closely with the Head of School to provide leadership for our engineering staff. They will have a strong commitment to equity and diversity in teaching, research and engagement and will work proactively and collegiately to support and extend our delivery of applied research and scholarship. The postholder will contribute to the planning of our submission to the next Research Excellence Framework (REF) exercise by developing our Units of Assessment, informing our REF strategy, facilitating the growth of external research income, improving the quality of research outputs and maximising research impact.
The School is committed to developing excellence in research, knowledge exchange and teaching. We are looking for candidates who can demonstrate an internationally excellent research profile in their field and who can deliver leadership of our research, knowledge exchange and teaching in this subject area. The successful candidate will be looking to develop world-leading research area in sustainable engineering linked to RENEW (https://www.beds.ac.uk/research/areas/engineering/) or IRAC (https://www.beds.ac.uk/irac/)
They will evidence a track record of externally funded research projects and innovation activity as a Principal Investigator and demonstrate an ambition to significantly increase research funding in relation to engineering.
They will also be expected to grow postgraduate research student numbers, and to use research funding to establish a strong base of research associates as well as co-ordinating and managing research/teams.
