EXCITING NEW RESEARCH POSTS FOR GROUNDBREAKING PUBLIC HEALTH STUDY TO EVALUATE IMPACT OF ULTRA LOW EMISSION ZONE
An international research team, led by Queen Mary University London, and with Professor Gurch Randhawa as the University of Bedfordshire lead, has been awarded a grant by National Institute for Health Research's Public Health Research Programme to evaluate the impact of the London Ultra Low Emission Zone on children's respiratory health.
The study design is a 4 year prospective parallel two arm cohort study, recruiting primary school children in Luton and Central London. The post holders will be based in the Institute for Health Research at the University of Bedfordshire and will lead upon the Luton sites and support the London sites.
The post holders will establish and gather data from two cohorts of schools, parents and children, in order to evaluate the impact of air pollution on lung growth (using spirometry), health and development of primary school children in Luton and Central London.
The successful candidates will have a PhD in a public health or health research related field (e.g., social science, physiology, psychology, medical sociology, epidemiology), possess strong quantitative and qualitative skills, and an understanding of how to conduct complex health interventions within sensitive contexts.
The successful candidates will be joining an international centre for research excellence.
