Job information
The University of Bedfordshire are one of a number of international partners across Europe and Japan involved in the ground-breaking 'CARESSES' (Culture-Aware Robots and Environmental Sensor Systems for Elderly Support) study. This pioneering study, funded by the European Commission and Japan's Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communication, is developing
the first ever culturally aware and culturally competent robot to assist the delivery of care of older adults in supported residential care home settings. The study has and continues to receive significant international media coverage (e.g. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/education-38770516).
The University is taking a leading role on the project's testing and evaluation phases and as such applications are invited for a Research Assistant post. The post holder will play a key role in delivering these phases. He/she will coordinate with the study's national and international partners to help deliver the study protocol. This will include carrying out planned screening and recruitment, testing and evaluation, data analysis and dissemination procedures and activities. A key relationship will be with our research partner Advinia Healthcare, a leading UK care home provider who is working with us on the project. The post holder will support the work of the other researchers on this project. The post will be supervised by the University's project lead and key team. He/she will be self-disciplined, an excellent communicator and have a demonstrable ability to work as part of a team, and be expected to contribute to other activities within the Institute of Health Research as required.
The successful candidate will have a Masters Degree (or equivalent) in a social science of health research related field (e.g. public health, psychology, medical sociology, epidemiology), possess strong quantitative and qualitative skills, excellent organisational and communication skills, and an understanding of how to conduct complex health interventions within sensitive contexts.
The successful candidate will be joining an international centre for research excellence. All of our research is "internationally excellent in impact, and the majority is world-leading. 73% of research outputs are 3* or 4* - internationally excellent or world leading" - Research Excellence Framework 2014.
Interviews will be held on 11 May 2018
