Our new professor will play a significant leadership role in the Institute for Sport and Physical Activity (ISPAR) which spans sport science, health, psychology, pedagogy and social sciences of sport. ISPAR is aligned to the Department of Sport Science and Physical Activity which has been offering high quality higher education in physical education for 114 years and now has one of the largest under graduate provision in the country. Following a strong performance in REF 2014 (48% outputs 4* or 3* and 95% of outputs rated as internationally recognised or better), the team's work for REF 2020 is progressing well. The new professor will be able to lead the sport science group towards another successful submission and will be considered for other research institute leadership roles and responsibilities as they come up for review. They will make a contribution to course development and teaching according to their specialism.
The appointee will be expected to demonstrate leadership in the field of sport science and a specialism in one of the following areas biomechanics, exercise physiology, health and nutrition. Demonstrable evidence of organisational and external impact arising from successful research and income generation activities is also essential. The appointee should have experience in securing external funding for projects and in supervision of PhD students to completion. The successful candidate will be recognised for their contributions by their wider subject community. There will also be evidence of a coherent approach to their own personal development as a researcher together with recognition of their professional practice by the Higher Education Academy (HEA).
The professor will have access to our state-of-the art Sport Science Centre which includes seven temperature controlled laboratories, a research kitchen and an environmental chamber.
