The School of Teacher Education is seeking to recruit an experienced and innovative secondary physical education specialist to join our ambitious team of staff and students. The School includes a range of undergraduate and postgraduate initial teacher education (ITE) courses in early years, primary, secondary and post compulsory education. We have a substantial part-time education portfolio, for those already supporting learning in educational settings. The School is a significant provider of ITE in the region, with a partnership of over 300 schools.
We are seeking to appoint a member of academic staff to teach on our undergraduate and postgraduate Physical Education ITE programmes:
The post holder will play a key role in supporting and leading a range of applied practical and theoretical units across these courses. Applications should make clear what areas of expertise you would bring to the role and how these align with or might develop our programmes. For the right candidate, there are also coordination responsibilities in the School.
We have recently validated England’s first Integrated Master’s degree in Physical Education with QTS. We are one of the largest providers of Physical Education ITE in the country, and one of a select number offering undergraduate and postgraduate provision. Our most recent Ofsted inspection report highlighted that “The provider has a formidable reputation for providing schools with effective teachers of PE” (Ofsted Inspection Report, 2016). The University of Bedfordshire has a significant history in the delivery of Physical Education since 1903 with a national and international profile.
We are particularly keen to receive applications from experienced and evidence-informed teachers, mentors, middle or senior leaders, as well as from individuals currently working in university or school based Physical Education ITE contexts. You will be passionate about supporting initial and continuing teacher education and will support our growing impact through research and teacher professional development. You will require knowledge and understanding of contemporary research, perspectives and practices in the field of physical education. There are two types of post available (Senior Lecturer and Teaching Practice Coordinator) and therefore it is important that you review the details of each job description. The post applied for should be based on skills, qualifications and experience. It will be offered at grade 8 and with a focus on research (senior lecturer) or professional practice (teaching practice coordinator). You will have a doctorate (or near completion), or substantial teaching/professional experience, and a publication record commensurate with your grade and role. If you wish to be considered for more than one post you must submit an application for each post you wish to be considered for.
